Even the best writers need editors. But what many don't know is that there are different types of editing, and not all editors offer all. Check below for a breakdown of what I offer, including a detailed explanation of what you can expect from each.
A sample edit can be provided upon request, the length of which is determined by the overall length of your project - usually a few pages to a few chapters. In my edits, I put a strong emphasis on maintaining the author's style and voice where possible. While many authors edit using AP or MLA or some other sort of editorial guideline, I edit based on the author's voice, while still maintaining basic rules of grammar.
Additionally, the author has full control; I track my changes so you can see every change that's made, right down to the punctuation. You can check changes, and then determine on your own whether to accept or reject the change. When necessary, I provide an explanation on why I think the change is necessary, or you can ask me directly.
You’ve triple-checked your work, and it STILL comes through with mistakes! Copy editing can be your saving grace. I’ll meticulously check your work, looking for typos, misspelled and misused words, and keeping up with all those crazy grammar rules.
Sometimes it takes a fresh pair of eyes to see mistakes in your story. Inconsistencies, scenes that don’t make sense, long pages of dialogue, and characters who act out of turn- all this and more can make an appearance in your story, turning it from the next NY Times bestseller to one that only sells a few copies. Hiring a story editor can make all the difference.

Here’s what some of my clients have to say
Nat Davis is one of my editors. She is very professional and got my book back to me before the deadline. I highly recommend her work.
Knowledgeable, insightful and thorough! Nat did a wonderful job on my first novel, and she was so enjoyable to work with. She is a top-notch choice for editing!
Kudos to Davis Professionals for a fine edit/critique of our Conflict of Ages Part Three: They Deliberately Forgot: The Flood and The Ice Age. Thank You!
Thanks for your careful editing, you’ve made my book much better.
Nat’s approach challenges the author to write with excellence in all areas; content, presentation, and style. It was a pleasure working with her, and I recommend her for any editing needs future authors may have.
